The concert bands at Rock Bridge High School are exceptional instrumental ensembles that perform outstanding literature and are recognized throughout the state for their excellence. In March, 2010, both the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band received "Unanimous 1" ratings at District. Throughout the year, both ensembles give approximately 4-5 home concerts performing a wide variety of musical styles. On the final home concert of 2010, senior Rose Weston, performed the 1st movement of Horn Concerto No. 2 by Mozart with the Wind Ensemble.
In January, 2010, the Wind Ensemble performed at the Missouri Music Educator's Association State-Wide Conference. The groups repertoire included The Purple Carnival, Lauds, Irish Tune From County Derry, and Redline Tango. This was the first time any Rock Bridge instrumental ensemble performed at the conference and the Wind Ensemble was well received with a standing ovation by those in attendance.
On March 12, 2011, the band program will be hosting the1st Annual Rock Bridge Concert Band Festival for junior high and high school bands throughout the area and state. The creation of this festival is in response to the need of more venues for junior high and high school concert bands to perform at in front of well respected adjudicators. The festival will also have a clinic/sight-reading format. This promises to be a great festival for junior highs and high schools alike.
The Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band rehearses simultaneously on 'A' days beginning after the marching season (end of October). Students have the opportunity to audition for the Wind Ensemble in spring of the previous year.
